What is Ara?
Ara is a visual social media platform for open source projects that tracks project ownership, collaboration, and funds on blockchain.
Projects are Galaxies, People are Stars
In Ara, open source projects are represented as Galaxies, and the people who contribute to them are Stars. When you fund a project, you earn Sunshines that represent your contribution and stake in the project's success.
1. Email Tracking (Demo Phase)
For the demo version: We collect your email address when you sign up or use Ara. This is temporary and only used to create your demo account and track your session.
We'll only use it to:
- Create and manage your demo account
- Track your activity during the demo session
- Send you important updates about Ara (if you opt in)
No spam, no selling your email, no creepy stuff. Once we move to full blockchain tracking, email usage will be minimized or eliminated.
2. Blockchain Tracking (Coming Soon)
The future: Ara will track all collaboration, ownership, and funding on a blockchain. This makes everything verifiable, transparent, and permanent.
We're still deciding on the exact implementation:
- MPC (Multi-Party Computation): A shared blockchain where multiple parties work together to maintain the network securely.
- User-Owned: Each user controls their own keys and blockchain interactions, giving you full control over your data.
Once we decide and implement, all tracking will move to the blockchain, and email usage will be minimized or eliminated. Ara itself is just the visual interface—the real magic happens on-chain.
3. Analytics
a.k.a. "how we make Ara less clunky"
We use analytics to see what pages people visit, how long they stay, and where they click. This helps us improve the design and user experience.
We don't use it to stalk you, sell you stuff, or anything creepy. Promise. It's just to make Ara better for everyone.
4. Stars and Sunshines
When you fund a project in Ara, you get Sunshines that represent your contribution. As you collaborate and contribute to projects, you earn Stars that show your participation and stake in the community.
All of this—your Stars, Sunshines, and contributions—will be tracked on the blockchain. This makes your contributions permanent, verifiable, and part of the project's history forever.
Stars are tied to real Git issues and commits, so everything is transparent and connected to actual work.
That's it.
We're building Ara to be transparent, fair, and sustainable. Your privacy matters, and we're committed to keeping things simple and honest.
